Player Profile: Michael Owen

Michael James Owen plays as a striker for Manchester United and also England. Born on the 14th December 1979 he is the son of former professional footballer Terry Owen. He was originally signed up to the Liverpool youth team & scored on his debut in May 1997. In fact in is first Premier League full season he finished as joint top scorer. He has suffered with a recurring hamstring injury but despite this he was top scorer from 1997-2004 for Liverpool.

He as gone on to win many football accolades including the Ballon d’Or award. Whilst playing for Liverpool his team won the FA Cup, the Football League Cup and the UEFA cup all in one year.

In 2004 Owen made the decision to move to Real Madrid. However this was short lived and he soon returned to Newcastle United and England. He suffered another on going injury he was team captain and the team’s top scorer for 2007-2008.

In 2009 Owen left Newcastle United and made the move to Manchester United, the team he has played for since.

Owen started his football career at a young age and has since become one of the recognizable faces of English football and in turn has become a pin up for teenage girls up and down the country as well as being respected for his football skills. What the future holds for him we don’t know but he has played for many of the major UK teams, England and Real Madrid so he is comfortable playing under pressure.
